Soho Food Feast – 2016

3rd July 2016

Soho Food Feast is an annual food festival held at St Anne’s churchyard on Wardour street. It was started six years ago by Margot Henderson of Rochelle Canteen and her husband Fergus Henderson of St John Bread and wine – a finer pedigree would be hard to find! Initially started to raise funds for the Soho Parish school kitchen, the event has grown from a small school fete event to a weekend of fantastic food by some of the best restaurants in and around Soho.

The Better Half (TBH) and I have been to the last 3 events and it is one we look forward to every year. So much so, that TBH cut short a weekend in Amsterdam with his friend, to attend the festival with me this year! (Could also be that I threatened him with certain death if he didn’t make it)

Buying a £12 entrance ticket and then tokens for £2 each to sample some of the best signature dishes around, is just incredible value – especially because every dish is just 1 token! Yep, £2 for restaurant quality food. Our strategy is that we each take a turn to choose a dish and then share it. That way we get to sample almost everything on offer. This year, we arrived a little late and some of the stands had already sold out, but I think we still had a pretty good selection.

We sampled dishes from Blacklock, Nopi, Ducksoup, Social Eating House, Brasserie Zedel, Gail’s Bakery and Lina Stores. Every dish as good as each other, but the last two were mine and TBH’s favourite respectively.

The festival has gotten a lot busier over the years, but it still has that great community feel and as long as they keep running, we’ll keep going.

Until we eat again!

Blacklock – Hanger steak with charred sweet potato

Lina Stores – Mixed ravioli with sage butter

Lina Stores – Gnocchi with tomato and basil sauce

Nopi – Cauliflower fritters with mint yoghurt sauce

Gail’s Bakery – Lamb sliders with pickled beetroot

Brasserie Zedel – Coq au Vin

Hoppers – Chicken something or other (not the dishes proper name!)

Social Eating House – Pork belly with aubergine puree

Ducksoup – Chickpeas with tomato
